Combient Pure, Vasakronan and KONE came together in 2022 to study the current state, challenges and opportunities for developing more circular technical building products. The results showed that there are some barriers for developing truly circular technical building products, but also that there is great opportunity in reducing the emissions from such products when embarking on the circularity journey:
The main conclusions included:
Circularity in technical building solutions is taking its first steps and there is an urgent need to move from theory to action. Product providers express eagerness to pilot concrete solutions and use the learnings to focus their work.
The key for successfully developing circular flows and operating models is multi-stakeholder collaboration. Actions such as jointly agreeing on top priorities, iteratively testing new solutions, and shifting mindsets both on company and industry level are needed.
Even though the development is going in the right direction, regulation and the market is immature and not fully supporting circularity. Still frontrunners prove that it is possible to overcome challenges and create circular and profitable business models already today.
To accelerate circularity in technical building solutions further, after the prestudy, Combient Pure designed the Circularity Development Program, to support manufacturers and solution providers in this transition.
