Nordic Circularity Piloting Program

A Nordic piloting program for circularity in technical building solutions creates new business opportunities

A group of Nordic companies come together to promote circularity in the building sector’s value chain wide effort: a program led by Combient Pure and funded by Nordic Innovation pilots circular technical solutions in buildings to fast-forward the circular offering development of products like Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, door systems and elevators.

In 2023, Combient Pure, Vasakronan, ASSA ABLOY, KONE and Swegon came together in a joint program to accelerate developments in circularity. The focus was to develop the internal capabilities for circularity in the participating companies. The companies are now continuing the journey to fast-track the development of circular solutions for technical building equipment in a new piloting program, aiming at value chain wide impact. The group of companies is now joined by other industry players: Skanska, Multiconsult, Demontera, NollaE and Cradlenet. The piloting program is funded by Nordic Innovation.

By driving value chain-wide collaboration and piloting in real building projects, the new program’s goals are to:

  • Widen the understanding of the Nordic building industry on what circularity in the technical building equipment product category means, to enable the increase of demand and supply of circular solutions

  • Provide a platform for piloting such solutions in multi-company collaboration setups between product manufacturers, end customers and other needed stakeholders

  • Create common learnings from piloting that allows other manufacturers to create new solutions, the piloting companies to scale their solutions and the end customers as well as wider value chain to lower the barriers for adopting circular solutions in this product category

  • Increase the visibility and export of Nordic circular solutions

  • Collect policy level insights for Nordic and EU level decision makers on how the circularity of technical building equipment could be further accelerated

The program takes place between November 2024 and June 2026. It starts with an open call to gather relevant Nordic actors into the program. In Spring 2025 the actors come together in workshops to increase the understanding of circularity in technical building solutions across the value chain. In addition, participants collectively dive into the piloting possibilities of circular offerings in the product category, with Combient Pure supporting the matching of relevant actors regionally. This includes product manufacturers, property owners and construction companies, but also new players needed for circularity development.

In Fall 2025, program participants begin the execution of pilots: testing circular solutions in real buildings. In Spring 2026 the value chain actors are gathered again together to review the results from the pilots and publish the conclusions as well as policy level insights to the wider audience.
