Circularity Development Program for Munters

Munters embarked on Combient Pure’s Circularity Development Program in 2024. The program explored how circular economy can be implemented in Munters’ AirTech business area. The program consisted of five focused sprints: current state of circularity and circularity data, circular design, value chain engagement for circularity, circular business models, as well as aligning internally for circularity at Munters.

Need

In 2023 Munters identified Circularity as material in the Double Materiality Assessment. To build knowledge and systemize the approach to circularity, Munters decided to initiate a circular transformation, staring in one business area and in a specific product line with the long-term objective to apply circular economy principles to more products, processes and business areas. This required education, mapping, as well as strategic and operational development to embed circular economy principles into its products, processes, and business models.

Pure's support

Munters partnered with Combient Pure to go through a tailored Circularity Development Program, structured around five focused sprints. The program brought together an extensive number of participants from across Munters’ business functions, recognizing that advancing circularity requires strong cross-organizational collaboration. Through expert guidance, practical exercises and facilitation from Combient Pure, academic insights from RISE, circularity data training from Circular IQ and numerous hands-on guest speakers from peer organizations, Munters was equipped with a structured and actionable path forward. The sprints covered understanding the current state, embedding design for circularity in the product lifecycle and value chain, exploring circular business models such as PaaS, and achieving internal alignment and collaboration.

Outcome

The program provided both insights, learning and practical tools to enable Munters to drive circularity on both strategic and operational levels; Through the program, Munters deepened its different functions' knowledge of circular economy principles and enhanced cross-functional collaboration between teams. New potential business strategies were explored and understood. The joint development resulted in a collaboratively developed Circularity roadmap with initial targets, KPIs, accountable and supporting roles, timelines, and actions to take circularity forward at Munters. This roadmap will contribute to Munters future circularity policy and strategy, in embedding circularity into its operations, ensuring continued development and alignment across the organization.
